TRAVIS BARKER AS ANIMAL RIGHTS ADVOCATE AND VEGAN ICON
There’s a decent probability that Blink-182 comes to mind when you think of the late ’90s and early ’00s pop-punk. The band’s debut major smash and the first to feature Travis Barker was “What’s My Age Again?” in 1999. Since then, the drummer has gained widespread recognition for reasons other than his work in music.
With the band that made him famous, Barker continues to play drums, but these days he’s also well-known for his ethical business dealings, dedication to a plant-based diet, and, of course, his recent marriage to reality TV heiress Kourtney Kardashian-Barker.
Here’s all you need to know about the musician’s dedication to advancing the vegan movement, from his support of plant-based eateries to his collaborations with animal rights groups.
Travis Barker: Who is he?
California native Barker is a devout vegan, a father, an investor, an entrepreneur, and an affectionate husband. But given that he has been a professional musician for the majority of his life, it makes reasonable that this is what he is best known for.

Transplants, +44, The Aquabats, TRV$DJAM, and, of course, Blink-182 are just a few of the many bands for whom he has played the drums. He established DTA Records, his own record label, and in 2016, he was included on Rolling Stone’s list of the “100 Greatest Drummers of All Time.” The newspaper described Barker as “an animalistic artist who performs violently and is unafraid to become theatrical” at the time.
Is Travis Barker vegan?
Barker originally adopted a vegetarian diet when he was 13 years old. However, the drummer spent 11 weeks in the ICU after surviving a catastrophic plane crash in 2008, where he briefly resumed eating meat for nourishment.
“I needed 6,000 calories per day. I had to eat whatever they had because they obviously didn’t have a vegan chef for me. I wound up consuming a lot of beef jerky and large peanut butter smoothies, each of which contained around 3,000 calories, he admitted to the Guardian in 2015.
He then made the decision to become a strict vegan. He said in an interview with Men’s Journal that eating only plants provides him “endless quantities of energy.” In addition, he mentioned that he occasionally eats plates of broccoli or cauliflower and added that he also enjoys strawberries, blueberries, and aça berries as snacks.
Later, in 2021, he revealed to GQ that he also adores vegan sushi, ice cream, pizza, and Vietnamese cuisine.
Animals Rights and Travis Barker
Barker prioritizes his health, which contributes to the fact that he consumes mostly vegan foods.

The musician is a tremendous animal lover, though. He collaborated with PETA on a campaign in 2017 that urged individuals to “make some noise for animals” and speak out if they observe an animal being mistreated or in distress.
Alabama, a fellow animal lover who was 11 years old at the time, and Barker discussed their compassionate dietary choices in a video that was included with the article.
“I’ve been vegan for many years and vegetarian for even longer—Alabama is vegetarian,” he said in the video. “We’ve always loved animals and we choose not to eat animals.
We choose a vegan and vegetarian lifestyle. We have a pig that’s so smart and to think that people still eat them is insane.”
Barker is a vegan who also wears animal-friendly apparel since he cares deeply about animals. “I always look for vegan leather because I adore it. I never want to mislead people, so I’ll assure you that whenever you see me wearing leather, it’s always vegan. I’m very, very adamant about it, he recently told People.
