With all of its more than 260 locations nationally, the fast-food chain Shake Shack is revamping its menu this week. Customers may now sample Shake Shack’s brand-new, totally vegan Non-Dairy Chocolate Custard ($4.69) and Vegan Chocolate Shake ($6.39).

Shake Shack collaborated with The Not Company (“NotCo“), a Chilean business that develops plant-based substitutes for animal goods using an artificial intelligence-powered platform known as “Giuseppe.”

Both dishes, which Shake Shack is including on its regular menu, are prepared using NotMilk, a practical vegan milk that closely resembles dairy in all relevant respects.

“Since we started Shake Shack in 2004, our mission has been to serve up elevated versions of the classics that not only taste great but are crafted with premium ingredients,” Jay Livingston, Chief Marketing Officer at Shake Shack, said in a statement.

The Vegetable Shack ($8.29) will also be added to Shake Shack’s national menu as of May 5. The fast food restaurant spent five years developing this vegetarian burger, which includes mushrooms, sweet potatoes, carrots, farro, and quinoa. It is topped with American cheese, crispy onions, pickles, and ShackSauce.

“We take a fine-dining approach to culinary innovation and spent five years testing and refining our new Veggie Shack with our culinary team,” Livingston said. “It’s packed with garden-variety vegetables and powered by farro and quinoa for a crave-able, substantial bite.”

From today, Shake App users only will get early access to this item. The cheese, sauce, and bun in The Veggie Shack all come from sources that are not considered vegan-friendly.

Shake Shack introduces vegan shakes with AI.

When Shake Shack started experimenting with dairy-free milkshakes and frozen custards at 10 locations in New York and South Florida in May 2022, it made its cooperation with NotCo public for the first time. The goods were popular in these particular areas last summer and are now being offered across the country.

Shake Shack used NotCo’s proprietary technology to create the new shakes and custards, which analyzes animal products at the molecular level and draws from a database of more than 300,000 edible plants to recreate the ingredients without using animals.

“We’re also excited about our new non-dairy items—the Non-Dairy Chocolate Shake and Non-Dairy Chocolate Frozen Custard—are made with plant-based milk from food tech leader NotCo,” Livingston said.

“Partnering up with Shake Shack used to be a dream of mine and one of the most ambitious milestones for NotCo,” Matias Muchnick, CEO and Co-Founder of NotCo, said in a statement. “Having a tailored NotCo product in Shake Shack stores nationwide is a clear statement of our ability to create elevated tailored-made delicious and profitable versions of vegan products in record time that appeal to the mass market.”

NotCo collaborates with a number of well-known companies in various regions in addition to Shake Shack, such as Starbucks, which last year strengthened its already-existing relationship with NotCo by bringing NotMilk to its locations in Colombia.
