JAPAN’S NEXT MEATS AND DR. FOODS WILL LAUNCH VEGAN CAVIAR IN US IN 2023
The vegan alternatives of foie gras, caviar, and shelf-stable Next Meats vegan products will be introduced in North America in 2023, according to Tokyo-based firm Next Meats and its spinoff business Dr. Foods Inc.
Next Meats are the USA branch of Next Meats Japan, which is aiming to become basically Japan’s version of Beyond Meat.
On December 14th, Next Meats had a private launch to introduce the new products at the Los Angeles Cooking School and JETRO in Culver City, California.
World-famous Chef Reina, who created Next Meat’s selections in a range of international cuisines such as Beef Stroganoff, Korean BBQ, and Bistek, was the event’s featured chef.

Dr. Foods Inc. is the inventor of Vegan Foie Gras, described as the first vegan-based foie gras. According to Next Meats, Dr. Foods will launch its operations in Singapore, the world’s epicenter for cell-based food technology.
Wide range of vegan products
33 alternative protein items, including the “world’s first” plant-based Yakiniku Short Rib and Skirt Steak, have already been released by Next Meats. The firm, which specializes in Japanese-style goods, also sells a vegan Beef Bowl, vegan Chicken, vegan Burger Patties, vegan Pork, vegan Tuna, and vegan Milk.
While Next Meats hasn’t given us a lot of information about the new range, it does claim that its products are rich in protein, low in saturated fat, and free of cholesterol, GMOs, preservatives, and artificial flavors.

In 2021 it debuted its plant-based short ribs and skirt steak the next year at a few Californian stores.
Co-representative of Next Meats, Mr. Ryo Shirai, in an earlier interview with vegconomist stated
“The current two pillars are an expansion of the production system and research and development.” He added, “We have gathered very talented engineers and food scientists from all over the world, such as Russia, China, and France. However, there are still not enough people. The company scale will grow further down the road, and we are looking for passionate people to enhance the impact together with us.”
